Building practice as an organisational consultant (CPD92)

Expand your professional organisational consultancy practice using the Tavistock’s systems-psychodynamics approach

This online course has been designed for organisational practitioners and consultants who want to expand their professional practice by using the Tavistock’s systems-psychodynamics approach.

You will join a group of professionals to explore our unique consulting approach to organisational challenges and dilemmas across a wide range of settings. With support and guidance from our expert tutors, you will improve your practical experience, skills and understanding of the framework.

You will focus on working with diversity and difference, and your role as a consultant in these areas. We’re committed to developing anti-oppressive practices and have designed this course to be accessible and inclusive.

Additionally, this course can also provide a stepping stone to our professional doctorate in Advanced practice and research: consultation and the organisation.

We have designed our seminars to cater to a wide range of learning styles — combining taught content with experiential learning such as work discussion, observation and exercises.

Seminar 1: Developing professional consultancy practice. These seminars will develop your professional practice as an organisational consultant. In these, a concept or framework will be introduced and then developed through a group exercise. Topics include: anatomy of a consultation; contracting; taking up authority; setting up a practice; working with difference and diversity; ethical practice; role consultation; away days; group dynamics; working notes.

Seminar 2: Applying the Tavistock approach to organisational change. These seminars will help you develop and apply your understanding of the systems-psychodynamics approach to organisations, specifically as a consultant. You will discuss classic and contemporary literature, alongside consultancy case studies, and apply these ideas to your own work through use of the work discussion model.

Professional development review: Taking place at the end of the course, this one-hour individual session provides an opportunity to review your learning with one of the course tutors. You will consider further personal and professional development, including attendance at a Tavistock Group Relations Conference.

You will be offered a discounted fee to attend a Group Relations Conference at The Tavistock clinic as this is an important development opportunity.
