In 2026, The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust became part of North London NHS Foundation Trust in a merger by acquisition which protects the future of our pioneering clinical services and world-renowned education and training.
Installed in our new home, Tavistock Education and Training continues to offer a wide range of life-changing CPD and postgraduate courses, drawing on the innovative approaches to understanding mental health and emotional wellbeing that have characterised our work for over a century.

All our courses are developed and delivered by our faculty of expert NHS clinician-tutors, so you know that the education you receive is highly relevant, up-to-date and applicable. Our validated courses are awarded by the University of Essex and our clinical courses are recognised and accredited by a range of leading professional bodies.
With many of our pathways based on an escalator model – from introductory courses through to advanced clinical training – you can build a meaningful career in a variety of sectors, including mental health, healthcare, education, social work, consultancy and criminal justice.
A century of excellence
We have been at the forefront of exploring mental health and wellbeing for over 100 years, providing a wealth of original and innovative thought on human development and how to support those that need help.
Many of the key tenants of psychoanalytic, developmental and systemic practice were first developed at The Tavistock and Portman – including attachment theory, infant observation, and organisational and group dynamics.
A new chapter
For over 100 years, the Tavistock and Portman clinics embodied a distinctive way of thinking about and understanding mental distress, mental health and emotional wellbeing. Today, as part of North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT), we continue to provide specialist mental health services, education and research.
