Our partners

Who we work with

We work with local, national and international academic and health partners that facilitate us bringing high-quality and relevant education to individuals, commissioners and employers that require it.

Health Education England

Health Education England (HEE) exists for one reason only: to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England.

We work closely with HEE to ensure that the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviors, at the right time and in the right place.

We do this by developing and aligning our courses with what HEE identifies is needed in terms of education for those working in mental health and social care.

University of Essex

Our primary academic partner is the University of Essex, known for its world-class research and educational excellence and its consistently high levels of student satisfaction. The majority of students starting postgraduate degrees with us will work towards an Essex-accredited award.

We have worked in partnership for a number of years, with Essex validating our master’s in psychodynamic psychotherapy, doctorate in child, community and educational psychology and professional doctorate in advanced practice and research: child and educational psychology.

We have recently expanded that partnership, and have now validated the majority of our postgraduate portfolio of courses with Essex. The expansion of this partnership brings mutual development opportunities for shared learning and innovation, both in our teaching and our research. In some cases this has led to reconfiguring courses to better meet the current need of students and the industry.

The Trust is exploring the potential for broader academic links with the University, for example with Essex’s centre for psychoanalytic studies, its department of sociology and school of philosophy and art history. Together we aim to make a real difference to the lives of people suffering with mental health problems and to promote resilience and positive mental health.

University of East London

We have been formally linked with the University of East London as collaborative partners since 1990. There exist strong teaching bonds between teaching staff employed in the University and the Trust in the areas of psychoanalytic studies, social work and systemic and narrative research.

UEL validates the award for all students, current and prospective, who study our master’s in social work.

Please note that current students who have already embarked on UEL-validated courses at the Tavistock will continue to work towards a UEL-accredited qualification.

Skills for Care

Skills for Care, the National Skills Academy for Social Care, have officially endorsed Tavistock and Portman as a ‘recognised provider’ for our social work and social care courses. Skills for Care provide practical tools and support to help adult social care organisations in England recruit, develop and lead their workforce.

Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families

Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families works to improve the lives of thousands of children and young people affected by mental health problems every year. They provide specialist help, carry out innovative research and train others.
