Welcome Week 2023

Taking place from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 September 2023, this year’s Welcome Week has seen new postgraduate students join us for a range of induction activities prior to the start of the new academic year.

Welcome Week provides our new students with time and space to undertake key enrolment and administrative tasks, with a range of face-to-face sessions scheduled throughout the week and beyond – ensuring a smooth start to every student journey at the Tavistock and Portman.

This year, many students have been invited to course-specific inductions in the Tavistock Centre, followed by introductory meetings with our Library and Digital Education teams, and one-to-one DBS appointments where applicable. For those embarking on clinical training, dedicated inductions and checks have formed part of a comprehensive governance passport, which must be in place before trainees begin clinical work in our Trust.

As well as its more formal dimensions, Welcome Week also gives new students the opportunity to get to know their fellow classmates and members of our wider academic and administrative community. Our Student and Trainee Groups have run a series of friendly drop-in events; Student Support and Engagement representatives have been on hand all week to answer questions and offer advice; and Elisa Reyes-Simpson, our Chief Education and Training Officer and Dean of Postgraduate Studies, met with students for an informal welcome and introduction on Tuesday afternoon.
