The Simeon Atoza fund

A fund in the memory of Simeon Atoza for students from a minoritised ethnic group

In the summer of 2020 we lost a treasured member of the course administration team in our education and training department. His name was Simeon Atoza and he looked after the new and continuing students on our Consulting and leading in organisations: psychodynamic and systemic approaches and Foundations of psychodynamic psychotherapy courses.

Simeon was a highly popular, active individual – both in his role at the Tavistock and Portman, and in his life beyond work. In his role as course administrator, Simeon always sought to enhance the experience of students, and would often work beyond the formal boundaries of his role to ensure a student received the support they needed.

His work for international students introduced him to a wider group of students and he had a clear passion for helping others, particularly through supporting learning. Beyond his role for the Trust, Simeon was a pastor, active in local politics and involved in charity work.

We all miss Simeon very much. He was a gentle person with a strong, kindly presence and he carried his experience and wisdom lightly.

In honour of his memory, we are delighted to launch the Simeon Atoza fund that will be available to two new students from a Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic background who apply to the courses that Simeon looked after.

How much is the Simeon Atoza fund?

This fund is worth £750 and will be deducted from the first year fees for two new students.

Who can receive the Simeon Atoza fund?

This fund is to help potential new students from a minoritised ethnic group on our Foundations of psychodynamic psychotherapy courses only.

Potential receivers of the fund will be put forward by the course lead on these two courses and will be assessed from the content of the application form and performance at their interview(s) for a place on the course.

The applications for the fund (not a place on the course) will be reviewed by our equality, diversity and inclusion team who will make a decision on which applicant shall receive the fund.
