Digital Academy accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to the Tavistock and Portman Digital Academy Moodle platform at https://digital.tavistockandportman.nhs.uk.

This platform is run by the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this platform. For example, this means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the platform using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the platform using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the platform using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts (with the necessary software)

We’ve also made the platform text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this platform’s accessibility

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is committed to making its platforms accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This platform is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • On some course pages (specifically the ‘Key concepts’ sections), the ‘skip to main content’ option when navigating the site using a keyboard does not work as expected. This fails accessibility criteria 2.4.1
  • On some course pages (specifically the ‘Key concepts’ sections), there are no unique page titles. This fails accessibility criteria 2.4.2
  • Some media player controls do not receive focus in order. This fails accessibility criteria 2.4.3
  • It can often be difficult to see where you are on the page when navigating using a keyboard. This fails accessibility criteria 2.4.7

Plans to address these issues

Problems identified with our course pages and media players

Our course pages and media players are built and hosted through third party software which we are unable to amend directly. We have logged these issues with the suppliers. We will make another assessment when the supplier contracts are up for renewal in December 2024.

Difficult to see where you are on a page when navigating using a keyboard

We upgraded to Moodle to version 4.1 in December 2023, which resolved some of the navigation issues, but some still remain. We plan to move to a new Moodle instance in autumn 2024 which we hope will further rectify this issue. We will carry out another assessment when this change has taken place in December 2024.
