Felicity Tyson
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist
Dr Felicity Tyson is the course lead for our MA degree in Psychoanalytic studies (M16) course lead for our fully-funded Developing a diverse child and adolescent workforce (CPD64) training, and Training Skills Escalator Manager.
Since 2018, she has taught on four courses at the Tavistock and Portman: Developing a diverse child and adolescent workforce (CPD64) ; Psychoanalytic studies (M16) ; Emotional care of babies, children, young people and families (EC1) and Perinatal, child, adolescent and family work: a psychoanalytic observational approach (M7) .
Felicity completed her doctoral training in child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman and the University of East London. During her training, she worked therapeutically with children and their families in the Child and Family Department at the Tavistock Clinic and the Brent Centre for Adolescents. She has specialist clinical and research interests in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children under-five and their parents. Her doctoral research looked at the contribution of child psychotherapy in supporting the mental health needs of parents and infants in GP practices and community settings.
Felicity has set up and run child psychotherapy services for young children and their families in the NHS, schools, children’s centres and community health services. She currently works directly with, and supervises, the clinical work of therapists working with children and families affected by early trauma, parental mental health, disability and neurodevelopmental needs. She works in private practice and supervises the clinical work of psychotherapists working with adults and children with learning difficulties in the charity sector.
