Katy Cole

Senior Lecturer

Dr Katy Cole is a Senior Lecturer on the Professional Doctorate in Child, Community and Educational Psychology with responsibility for the child development, assessment and intervention module. She has worked as an educational psychologist (EP) for 19 years and runs her own practice providing assessment, consultation and training to schools. Katy is an advocate for working at systems levels to effect change and has contributed to countywide initiatives. Her research supervision interests have been for topics exploring educational and professional experiences of marginalised groups, the outcomes of which continue to inform her practice.

  • Doctorate in Child and Educational Psychology (D.Ed.Ch. Psych) – Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust / University of Essex
  • MSc Educational Psychology– University College London
  • PGCE Primary– Institute of Education 
  • BSc (Hons) Psychology

  • Emancipatory exploration of children and young people’s disability experiences – IPA study
  • The Experiences of Male Educational Psychologists When in Role – Focus groups/RTA 
  • School staff’s experiences of working with trans-spectrum young people: a psychosocial approach

  • Racial identity, Context and Practice: An IPA study exploring the experiences of Black Educational Psychologists in the UK.
