Using digital resources and tools for your studies

Navigating digital platforms and using digital tools is essential for postgraduate study. This guide explains what you need to know and how to get further support.

Understanding our digital systems and learning environment

All of our courses are supported by digital platforms, resources and services.

Moodle

Our courses use a digital learning environment called Moodle as a central hub for course information, communication, learning material and collecting your assessments.

You will need to access Moodle on a regular basis. Moodle can be accessed through a web browser or using the Moodle App. For further information, including contact details for support, please visit our Moodle and digital learning page.

Library digital resources

Most of the readings for your course and the resources you need for independent study and research will be available online, through the Library website. You will be directed to specific items to read from your reading lists in Moodle.

There are many types of resources, often from different providers, so learning to navigate them might take time. We provide online Help with library resources and the library team can help you directly (in the library or online).

Username and password (Shibboleth)

To access Moodle and library digital resources you use a Shibboleth username and password. You will be emailed your Shibboleth details in mid-September.

If you’re having problems logging in with Shibboleth, see Shibboleth login help.

MyTAP

You will be familiar with MyTAP from the application and enrolment process. You will continue to use MyTAP at various points during your course, for example to access your final assessment marks. Further information and contact details for support: MyTAP help.

Students studying University of Essex courses

If your course is validated by the University of Essex, you will be given a University of Essex IT account, which will give you full access to the University of Essex Library and other services including LinkedIn Learning videos and software to download on your own computer. You will be emailed with details of how to set up your University of Essex IT account.

Getting connected (internet access)

Using Wi-Fi at the Tavistock Centre

If you’re studying in London at the Tavistock Centre, you can connect your device (laptop, tablet or phone) to our free Wi-Fi for internet access. Look for ‘Free NHS Wifi’ in your device’s settings and follow the instructions to login. You’ll need to login each time you visit the Tavistock Centre.

For a better viewing experience we recommend you upgrade your browser.
