Confidentiality

As an NHS organisation, we take the Freedom of Information Act and the Data Protection Act extremely seriously and personal data will never be used for anything other than the primary reason it was gathered.

We have a student coursework management policy for your assessment submissions.

Anonymity and confidentiality in assessment

The Trust has a confidentiality and anonymity policy which gives examples of breaches of confidentiality and anonymity, and the penalties for these breaches.

We expect our students to comply with the data protection act if you are writing about people or organisations in your assignments.

For help and guidance on anonymising your work, please see our anonymisation and confidentiality in your writing guide on Moodle.

Subject access requests

Requests to see personal records, also known as subject access requests (SARs) may be made by anyone whose personal records we keep. Mostly this is of interest to patients, but it could also mean staff or student records. As you know, these requests must be handled centrally in the first instance. Please send requests to: SAR@tavi-port.nhs.uk

Accessibility and reasonable adjustments

We respect your right to privacy, and all information related to accessibility and reasonable adjustments is kept securely on our system, with very limited access.

You will be asked if you consent to us sharing your information with your course team and (where applicable) your placement provider.

If you give us permission to share with your course team and/or placement provider, we will share your information sensitively, on a need-to-know basis to ensure that we can put in place your support requirements.

You can withdraw your agreement to share at any point. Doing so may affect any reasonable adjustments you already have in place.

Where we are concerned that you or others are at risk of serious harm we will break confidentiality and contact either your trusted contact, next of kin, and/or a relevant service to address the risk. We will always attempt to discuss this with you first unless doing so would place you or others at greater risk.
