Child and adolescent higher training scheme (PGME)

An opportunity for specialist placements and training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and systemic family therapy for trainee doctors in psychiatry

This exciting training scheme offers a three year, full time rotation for training doctors who have completed core training in psychiatry. A less than full time option is also available.

The training offers a wide range of community and specialist placements, including adolescent in-patients, and provides training opportunities in psychodynamic psychotherapy and systemic family therapy.

About this course

The theoretical component of the training comprises a locally delivered academic programme and the Joint Pan North London academic programme (provided with two other trusts), giving trainees access to high quality renowned speakers in the field.

Clinical placements take place three days a week. Placements are in the north central sector of London, both in acute and mental health trusts. They include internal placements at the Tavistock, as well as placements in external trusts to provide trainees with optimal clinical experience.

Two posts are offered at CT2/CT3 level in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The posts are linked to the north central core training in psychiatry rotation and aim to provide basic competencies in the field. They are based in the out-patient Adolescent and Young Adult Service, which provides assessment, treatment and care to patients aged 14 to 25 with complex clinical needs and a range of psychological and mental health difficulties.

This programme is led by a specialty tutor who is the point of contact during your placement at the Tavistock.

Who is this course for?
