Post study work/graduate route

Two years work experience after completing your course

From 1 July 2021 international students can benefit from two years’ work experience in the UK after they complete their degree programme by applying for the Post-study graduate route (PSW).

How to apply

To apply, you will need to have completed your degree programme and have a valid Tier 4 or Student Visa at the time of application. Applications for this work route must be made in the UK.

If you are successful in applying for this route, you will be able to stay and work, or look for work in the UK at any skill level. You will be able to be either employed or self-employed (except as a professional sportsperson).

Is there a cost?

UKVI say the application fee for the Graduate Route will be £700. Details can be found here. Applicants will also need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge.

There is no requirement to show maintenance (living costs) when applying for this visa. However, you should bear in mind that you will need money to pay your living costs.

Which qualifications do I need to apply?

To be able to apply for the Graduate Route, you must have completed one of the following qualifications:

Does it matter that I have been learning remotely?

To apply for the Graduate Route, you must have been studying within the UK.

*There are special rules in place for students impacted by Covid-19 and Lockdown where they have been unable to remain in the UK for 2020-21. If you would like help to discuss your personal circumstances, please contact us.*

Can I bring dependents?

Only dependants who are already in the UK as your Tier 4 or Student dependants can apply to extend their stay as your Graduate Route dependant.

Can I still study?

Study is restricted under the Graduate route. The study condition states that you cannot study any course which could in theory be sponsored under the Student route. There are some examples of permitted study where the usual student visa route is not available, which can be found on the UKVI website.
