From 2018 to 2023, Dr Nick Waggett was Chief Executive of the Association of Child Psychotherapists, where he led negotiations with NHS England that resulted in the doubling of training places in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and inclusion in the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan. Prior to that, he was a manager in the NHS for 26 years including leading the establishment of the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, in Leeds which is a partner organisation of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by the University of East London in 2006 in recognition of his contribution to workforce training and development.

Nick started his academic journey with an Honours Degree in Social Policy and Administration from Leeds Polytechnic and then gained a Master’s degree in Health Service Studies at the Nuffield Institute/University of Leeds, and a Master’s degree in Consultation and the organisation: psychoanalytic approaches – now Consulting and leading in organisations: psychodynamic and systemic approaches (D10), at the Tavistock and Portman, both with Distinction. Following this, Nick undertook a range of organisational consultancy work across the health and social care sectors before completing our professional doctorate in Advanced practice and research: consultation and the organisation (D10D), in 2017. His thesis investigated the impact of information and communication technologies on organisational processes in the human services, and he is keen to further develop this work, especially as we enter the era of artificial intelligence. He has taught on a number of academic programmes at the Tavistock and Portman, and in January 2024 he took up the role of course lead for our professional doctorate in Advanced practice and research: consultation and the organisation (D10D), and the Tavistock qualification in consultation (D10C),

Nick lives in South East London with his wife, Mandy, and his interests include cycling, photography and origami.
