Dr Jenifer Wakelyn worked as an artist and in early years’ education before training in psychoanalytic child psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre.

Dr Wakelyn has a special interest in therapeutic support for babies and young children who have experienced trauma or changes of caregiver.

Current research includes a pilot feasibility study funded by Foundations in the UK, and a project with government funding in Japan to support development and well-being for young children in foster care and institutional care.

Her book, Therapeutic Approaches with Babies and Young Children in Care: Observation and Attention, was published by Routledge in 2020. Dr Wakelyn teaches and supervises in the Tavistock Centre and in China, Israel, Italy and Japan.
