Welcome Week 2024
Taking place from Monday 23 to Saturday 28 September 2024, this year’s Welcome Week has been bigger and better than ever before.
Welcome Week offers our new postgraduate students the opportunity to complete final enrolment tasks, undertake course and clinical inductions, and get to know other students and members of staff. This year, the programme also included a range of social events and activities, to help new students settle fully into life at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
Throughout Welcome Week, students were invited to attend course-specific inductions, followed by introductory meetings with our Student Support and Engagement, Library and Digital Education teams, and one-to-one DBS appointments where applicable. For those embarking on clinical training, dedicated inductions and checks also took place.
In addition, an array of introductions, social events and taster sessions provided opportunities to make new connections, explore different aspects of student life, and learn something new. From free chair massages and mindfulness sessions, to talks from Trust clinicians and skills-focused workshops, no two days were the same.
Our four student and trainee groups held online and in-person drop-in sessions, and new research students were invited to meet with our Academic Quality team. For students joining us from overseas, a walking tour offered an informal introduction to central London, while our Student Support and Engagement team hosted two social events, complete with games, goodies and refreshments.
Reflecting on his first Welcome Week, our new Dean, Professor Mark Freestone said: “It has been my great pleasure to join in some of the excellent events organised by the DET team and to meet so many of our new students. Everything has been so well attended and full of energy and enthusiasm. I particularly enjoyed running into our overseas student group as well as some of our staff members as they prepared to journey out into a very wet Friday in London to experience the cultural sights of our lovely, if often wet, city. I would have joined them if I was not already soaked myself! I hope everyone has enjoyed this week and am greatly appreciative of all the hard work put into it.”
We wish all our new and returning students the very best for this academic year!
