Accreditation of prior learning (APL)

Applications to enter a course with advanced standing

If you have previously done a course or had work experience that covers some of the material in the course you’re applying for, you may be eligible to apply to enter the course with advanced standing, meaning that you have already met some of the learning outcomes on the course. This is called ‘accreditation of prior learning’ (APL).

If your learning is gained from other courses, it is called ‘prior certificated learning’, and through experience you have gained in your career is called ‘prior experiential learning’.

In terms of assessment and making the final award, APL credits are not taken into account when calculating your final mark for award. Therefore, your award will be calculated only on the modules that you have completed while on that course.
