Making space for difference

Doctoral Conference: Advanced practice and research: social work and social care (D55)

This doctoral conference will present some of the latest, practice-based research in the field of social work and social care – with a special emphasis on exploring difference from a unique, psychosocial perspective. We will consider the internal as a reflection of the external, how social systems of power are replicated and can dominate our inner lives, and how liberatory social work practice – and research into difference – can free us from systems of oppression and discrimination.

The conference will showcase the work of our Advanced practice and research: social work and social care (D55) programme: one of the most established and respected professional doctorates in social work and social care in the UK.

The free, half-day event will provide a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, expand your professional network and gain valuable knowledge. You will engage in thought-provoking discussions, interactive workshops and collaborative sessions – exploring the latest insights and perspectives from our doctoral students and esteemed professionals in the field. Keynote speakers will include Professor Carlene Firmin and Dr Sylvia Smith.
