Welcoming Dr Louise Grant to the Tavistock and Portman

Dr Louise Grant will be joining us in September 2023 to take up the role of course lead for Advanced practice and research: social work and social care (D55).

We are delighted to announce that Dr Louise Grant will be joining us in September 2023 to take up the role of Course Lead for our Advanced practice and research: social work and social care (D55) professional doctorate programme.

Dr Grant joins us from the University of Bedfordshire, where she has been working as Executive Dean for the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Dr Grant’s academic research focuses on improving the working conditions of social workers and others in the helping professions, building on her own professional experiences as a social worker and team manager.

On her appointment to the role, Dr Grant said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Tavistock as course lead for Advanced practice and research: social work and social care. Teaching and research in social work have been my two passions in my career and I am really excited to be able to combine these as I join the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

As someone who undertook my doctoral studies later in life, combining full time work and a family, I know that doctoral research is possible, but you need a strong and supportive team around you. I know that this exists at the Tavi and their emphasis on creating a safe, reflective space for study enables people to be successful. This is what attracted me to the job, and I hope to be able to contribute to this approach and bring experience of supporting, mentoring and coaching people to achieve in their career and study aspirations.

My work has a particular emphasis on supervision in social work and the organisational contexts which enable those in social work and social care to be able to do their best work. I will also continue to undertake research during the working week, so will bring a wide range of experience in applied research in social work and social care to this post.”

We look forward to welcoming Dr Grant to our faculty in September.
