Consultant Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Adam Burley is a consultant clinical psychologist, with over twenty-five years’ experience providing input to a wide range of public and third sector organisations who work with those who have experienced complex developmental trauma and subsequent exclusion. He graduated from St. Andrews University in 1994 with a psychology degree, before completing a doctorate in clinical psychology in Edinburgh in 1998. He subsequently worked in New Zealand, establishing a clinical psychology service in a rural district working with marginalised populations, before returning to Scotland in 2004 to work in the NHS, where between 2004 and 2022 he developed and ran a homeless psychology and psychotherapy service. He is currently professional lead for NHS Lothian’s specialist trauma service, as well as providing psychological input to a range of third sector organisations on a freelance basis. He has a particular interest in health inequalities, exclusion dynamics, and the psychology of adversity.
