Creating a study space for you

The Tavistock Centre library has undergone a significant refurbishment to better meet the needs of our students, staff and external members.

The refurbishment followed a wide consultation with students, other stakeholders, and visits to other libraries for inspiration. We are pleased that we were able to incorporate much of the positive feedback and suggestions we received into the updated spaces.

New study spaces

A key request was a greater variety of study spaces, which was a challenge in our relatively small area. Here’s what’s new:

A composite of four photos of the interior of the refurbished library space at the Tavistock Centre, featuring the two study pods, a view from the rear, the John Bowlby Room with computers and print journals, and the new desks in the Silent Study Space

Sustainability

We were mindful of sustainability and have retained nearly all our original desks, the old furniture is being recycled. The new furniture is all recyclable and much of it is made from recycled materials.

Accessibility

We have improved the accessibility of the library. Our desk chairs have been upgraded to high-backed, adjustable seats with breathable mesh backs. A second height-adjustable desk has been added to the main space. The new pods have adjustable lighting, and we have retained a silent study space.

Refreshed environment

There are new carpets, a fresh coat of paint, new signs and artwork to create a more pleasant environment to work in. Plus, there will be printing and PCs available as usual, but with computers spread across two of our rooms.

We are looking forward to meeting you in our new spaces. Please visit and let us know what you think.
