Types of training available for international students

We are delighted to welcome students from all over the world to the Tavistock and Portman

As an international student, you have the following options and they will depend on your qualifications and the type of training you’re interested in:

1. Joining a full-time course

You can enrol on one of our full-time on-site courses, lasting from one to four years. Some of these require prior qualifications, but others don’t. Please see the ‘entry requirements’ on each course page.

2. Joining as a clinical associate

As a clinical associate, you may undertake supervised clinical work in one of our directorates, on a full-time or part-time basis, to add to your experience and qualifications.

You will need to hold a recognised professional qualification – eg. as a psychiatrist, psychologist or social worker – have appropriate (clinical and other) work experience, and pass an interview, which includes assessing your personal suitability and fluency in English.

To apply, please write to the head of the relevant Tavistock clinical directorate with your enquiry.

3. Joining as a programme associate

If you are a professional whose clinical qualifications are not recognised in the UK, but you are interested in furthering your understanding of our approaches, you can become a programme associate. This provides access to an agreed programme of study, including lectures, seminars and workshops, but excludes clinical work.

4.Visitors’ programmes

We are able to arrange visitors’ programmes for groups and individuals for single days or up to one or two weeks. These are usually arranged by specific clinical department managers.

Joining a visitors’ programme enables you to attend Trust lectures or seminars and some specific training events designed to meet your needs. You can find out more from our clinical departments. Fees will depend on the programme proposed. Please see more on Visitors programme page.
