Starting on the psychotherapy pathway

An informal online event aimed at supporting historically excluded and currently under-represented groups

If you are interested in pursuing a career in adult psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy – and identify with a group that has been historically excluded and/or is currently under-represented in this profession – this online open event on Tuesday 19 May 2026 is for you.

Particularly valuable for anyone considering our Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Reflective Practice in Mental Health courses, the event will include small‑group conversations led by qualified psychotherapists and past students, offering honest reflections on their training journey, and practical guidance on applications, interviews and bursaries.

You’ll learn more about…

During this informal, online event, you will have the opportunity to:

  • meet in small groups with qualified psychotherapists and alumni, who will discuss their experiences of psychotherapy training and answer your questions.
  • share your own hopes, fears, motivations and goals around training in this field, and hear from other prospective applicants.
  • discuss the importance of increasing the diversity of our mental health workforce to better support the populations we serve, and our commitment to becoming a more inclusive education provider.
  • get key information about our Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Reflective Practice in Mental Health courses, including what to expect from the application process, and the details of bursaries available for the coming academic year.

You will also have time to ask any questions you may have about the courses.

Who is this event for?

This event is for anyone interested in beginning their training in adult psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy, who comes from a group which has historically been minoritised, and/or is currently under-represented within the psychotherapy profession.

It will be particularly helpful for those considering an application to our Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy and Psychodynamic Reflective Practice in Mental Health courses, this year or in the future.

We are working to create a more diverse cohort on our introductory courses, and in further trainings which better represent the diversity we see across clients and patients that we work with. Working psychotherapeutically involves being able to reflect on one’s own experiences, and the ways we respond to others, and our aim is to run this event with the same mindset.

We welcome individuals who feel that they are in any way part of a minority or under-represented group to attend this event. We will not be able to reflect all individual aspects of attendees but will do our best to welcome you in an open and thoughtful way.
