Medical psychotherapy (PGME)
Take part in multi-disciplinary training in psychotherapy across a network of NHS trusts
The Tavistock-based North East London specialist scheme in psychotherapy encompasses four trust sites:
- Camden Psychotherapy Service at St Pancras Hospital (Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust)
- Halliwick Unit at St. Ann’s Hospital (Barnet, Enfield and Haringey NHS Trust)
- Forest House Psychotherapy Service in Walthamstow (North East London NHS Foundation Trust)
- Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (here, trainees are placed in the Adult Complex Needs Service)
Each trainee spends 1.5 years at the Tavistock and 1.5 years at one of the other sites and participates in multi-disciplinary training in psychotherapy and is eligible to apply for the BPC-accredited course, Interdisciplinary training in adult psychotherapy (M1).
Trainees can undertake a single Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in medical psychotherapy (three years) or a dual CCT in psychotherapy and general adult psychiatry (five years).
The five-year training is split over three years in psychotherapy and two years in general adult psychiatry. Successful completion offers CCT in both psychotherapy and general adult psychiatry.
