Students chatting in Tavistock Centre cafe

Student life

We value our students’ feedback and welcome your input into many aspects of life at the Tavistock and Portman. We hold Dean’s Forums, where students can meet our executive team; all course committees are attended by student representatives; we have a student governor on our Trust board; and student representatives are invited to attend our main committees, so the student voice is truly embedded throughout our work.

In addition to our teaching rooms and lecture theatre, we
have a suite of student spaces at the Tavistock Centre, including a common room, communal work spaces and quiet pods. Meanwhile, our fifth-floor café provides fresh, home-made food every day at reasonable prices.

Our library has an extensive collection of books, databases, vides and journals. The majority of this material is digital, so you can access it wherever you do your learning, at any time. It also offers access to study spaces, computers and free printing for academic purposes. Our Information Skills Librarian is available for help and advice on topics such as how to cite references, conduct literature reviews and undertake database searching.

All our courses use an online platform called Moodle. It provides access to course information, reading lists and learning material. It acts as a communication hub and is used to collect your assessments. Our online and blended courses use Zoom for lectures, seminars and other teaching events. Students studying at the Tavistock Centre or at one of our regional centres might use Zoom for activities such as guest lectures or personal tutorials.
