“I chose to study here as I had previously completed my Master’s degree at the Tavistock and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I was particularly drawn to the psychoanalytic approach and the opportunity to explore human behaviour and relationships in greater depth. What also stood out to me was the way teaching and learning took place. It was very different from a traditional classroom environment. There was something uniquely reflective and intimate about the learning experience, which encouraged curiosity, discussion, and critical thinking.

The course has challenged me to view the world through different theoretical lenses. It has encouraged me to think more deeply about people, systems, and relationships, and to consider the complex factors that shape individual and collective experiences. It has given me the confidence to question assumptions, reflect critically on practice, and apply theory in meaningful ways. I have found the learning both intellectually stimulating and personally transformative, influencing not only my professional work but also the way I understand the world around me. It has also strengthened my confidence as a practitioner and researcher. The knowledge and skills I have developed have enhanced my ability to support children, families, and professionals, and have enabled me to approach complex situations with greater curiosity, empathy, and understanding.

I was surprised by the depth of reflection that the course encouraged. I expected to develop academically and professionally, but I did not anticipate how much the course would challenge my own assumptions, values, and ways of understanding the world. My advice to someone who is considering applying to study here would be to embrace the opportunity with an open mind and a willingness to be challenged. Studying at the Tavistock is not simply about gaining knowledge; it is about developing new ways of thinking.”
