“I decided to study at The Tavistock because it is one of the leading centres for psychodynamic and psychoanalytic training. It was very important to me to train in a place with such a strong reputation and tradition in psychoanalysis. What I enjoy most is the depth of reflection the course invites. It does not only teach technique; it encourages us to think carefully about patients, about ourselves as therapists, and about what may be happening beneath the surface in clinical work. I also value the way theory and practice are brought into dialogue, so that learning feels meaningful and connected to real clinical encounters. The course has influenced me both professionally and personally. It has deepened my clinical thinking, helped me listen more carefully, and made me more attentive to the complexity of people’s inner worlds. It has also encouraged greater reflection, patience, and tolerance for uncertainty. I think it has made me not only a more grounded practitioner, but also a more thoughtful person. One thing that has especially stayed with me is the warmth and sense of connection I have experienced on the course. As someone who came from another country to study here, that has meant a great deal to me. I have been struck by the generosity and thoughtfulness of many of my classmates and tutors, and by how supportive the learning environment can be alongside its intellectual and clinical seriousness. To anyone considering the course, I would say: come with curiosity, openness, and patience. It is a demanding training, but also a very rewarding one. Be prepared not only to study ideas, but to be changed by the process of learning. If you are genuinely interested in understanding people in depth, and in developing yourself as a reflective practitioner, it is a very valuable place to train.”
