“My decision to study at the Tavistock came down to the interview day. It wasn’t just about the curriculum and the unique CAMHS placement opportunity, it was the atmosphere of care and intentionality that stood out. Every single person from the staff team I met was deeply encouraging. It felt like they were invested in my success and interested in who I was, professionally and personally. Another factor that influenced my decision was a comment from a colleague who had worked with many EPs who had studied on various courses, and she told me, “You can drop a Tavistock-EP into any situation and they would adapt”. Now I’m here, this really does speak to the training. It is radically flexible, relational and rooted in the real world.

I enjoy the course’s unwavering commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and reflective practice. It is not just a tick boxing exercise. We are constantly asked to think about our self-in-role within a wider context of power and privilege. This course has sharpened my lens on power imbalances and intersectionality and has prompted me to reflect on myself in the role in ways I didn’t anticipate. It has made me more reflective, but also more courageous. I feel far more confident now in calling out oppressive dynamics and structures in the workplace and in advocating for systemic change. It has given me the language and strength to strive toward an EP practice that actively works to dismantle oppressive systems and to try something new.

When I started, I was nervous. I’d been out of higher education and was worried I wouldn’t be able to keep up. But the staff team are incredibly supportive, encouraging and containing. They understand that we are juggling a lot of fast-spinning plates, and they are there to help catch any that might start to fall.

This is a place that asks you to show up fully as you are. Come with an openness to change, and you will find a community ready to hold you, challenge you, and support you.”
