Thomas Booker

Senior Lecturer

Thomas Booker is a psychodynamic psychotherapist in private practice, a Senior Lecturer at Tavistock Education and Training, a Research Associate at UCL’s Psychoanalysis Unit, and a Clinical Scholar with the BPC Scholars’ Network.

He completed his psychotherapy training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and holds a BA(Hons) in History and Politics from the University of Warwick, an MA in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the University of Essex, and an MSc in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies from UCL.

He has previously worked as a researcher on the Tavistock Adult Depression Study (TADS), as a psychotherapist with the Camden and Islington Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Service, as an academic researcher at the Newham Centre for Mental Health (Queen Mary University/ELFT) and the Anna Freud Centre, and as a group leader at the Newham Centre for Mental Health Day Hospital and Triage ward. 

Thomas is an accredited member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP), and the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN). Having mixed heritage and having lived in the UK, the United States, Kenya, Colombia, France, Cuba, and Zimbabwe, he brings a rich international and cross-cultural perspective to his work.
