Psychoanalytic thinking at work: five tips for a successful application

Discover our introductory, year-long course psychoanalytic thinking at work.

Hosted entirely online, our course gives you the opportunity to join students from across the globe to learn about the fundamental aspects of psychoanalytic theory – all taught by practising clinicians in the field. You’ll learn how psychoanalytic thinking is applied in real-life contexts and be given the chance to reflect on your own career and next steps.

If this sounds like it’s for you, and you’d like to apply, we’ve prepared five top tips to help you with the process. Keep reading to learn more.

1. Personal statement

Your personal statement is your chance to tell us why you want to study the course over 500-1500 words. We know this can feel a bit daunting, so we’ve suggested these helpful prompts to guide you in your statement:

2. Choose your referees

Once you apply, you’ll be asked to provide us with the details of two referees, before being invited to a short online Zoom interview. This is an important part of the application process and a way of checking that this is the right course for you. Please let your referees know that we’ll be in touch within 72 hours after you’ve submitted your application.

3. Read our guide to work placements

Work placements are an essential part of the programme. A placement will deepen your understanding of your learning experience and will allow you to observe the interaction between staff and service users in their relevant setting. You could use your own workplace as a placement or for example, volunteer in a school, mental health clinic or hospital in a befriending role. You can find more support on this in our helpful guide to work placements.

4. Register to watch our open event recording

If you’re still unsure whether our course is right for you, watch a recording of our open event to find out further information on the course content, course structure, work placement and application process. The session also includes a live demo of our bespoke online learning environment.

5. Application deadline

Applications for 2022-23 are now closed.
