New bursaries to increase racial diversity on our courses

Offer holders starting in autumn 2021 on three of our courses can apply for the new bursaries.

In line with the Trust’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist organisation, the Tavistock and Portman Charity is offering bursaries for new students from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds to complete postgraduate training at the Trust. Each bursary package includes full payment of tuition fees and mentoring support. These bursaries will be paired, so there will be two recipients on each course.

Brian Rock, Director of Education and Training and Dean of Postgraduate Studies said: 

“The Directorate of Education and Training was bequeathed a generous donation by Julie Roach to provide bursaries and scholarships. This will support these scholarships, covering not only course fees but also the cost of mentoring for each recipient, which will help recipients get the most out of their time at the Tavistock.”

Paul Dugmore, the Associate Dean for Learning & Teaching said: 

“We know that being the sole recipient for such an award can feel isolating, hence it is fantastic to be in a position to offer two scholarships for each of these courses. It is very exciting to have these in place for the new academic year. It is also our intention that the scholarships be available for the next academic year, beginning in October 2022.”  

“We are committed to widening access to our courses and clinical trainings to students from Black, Asian and other under-represented ethnic backgrounds, and hope these new bursaries will go some way to achieving this.
