Tavistock Centre Library summer closure
We’re closing our spaces to make big improvements ready for the new academic year
The Tavistock Centre Library will be closed from Saturday 5 July, re-opening on Wednesday 3 September as we refurbish and remodel the space. The results will enhance your experience and make the library more welcoming and practical for all members. Here’s how we’ll be making improvements:
- updated study areas with new seating
- two soundproof group pods for collaborative working
- a more inclusive environment that better accommodates a variety of student needs
- greater variety of furniture suitable for different uses
- refreshed decoration for a more pleasant working space
- new desktop computers

Services while the space is closed
We understand that the library space being closed for this amount of time might be concerning, and we regret any disruption to your work, research or studies. The closure period is as short as we could make it given the extent of the improvements we are making. Please be reassured that we will continue to offer the following support:
- all online resources will be available as usual
- library staff will be available by email, web chat and Zoom
- the Student Work Space on the ground floor of the Tavistock Centre will remain open for those who require access to study space, computers and printing
- our print and DVD collections will not be available during the refurbishment – please take out any loans you will need over the summer before 4 July
- summer work projects such as reading-list updates will continue as usual
- loan items can be returned by dropping them in the book return container outside the library entrance, or be posted back using our Freepost label
There’ll be updates on how the work is going and we’ll confirm the exact date the library will reopen nearer the completion of the works.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during this period and look forward to welcoming you to the new and improved library space in September. If you have any queries, please contact the library.
