Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Felicity Tyson is the course lead for the Developing a Diverse Child and Adolescent Workforce and as Training Skills Escalator Manager, she supports the progression of students learning and development from this course on to other training and learning at the Tavistock and Portman.

Since 2018, she has taught on two courses at the Tavistock and Portman: the Emotional Care of children, young people and families (EC1) and Working with Children, Young People and Families: a Psychoanalytic Observational Approach (M7).

Felicity completed her doctoral training in child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman and the University of East London. During her training, she worked therapeutically with children and their families in the Child and Family Department at the Tavistock clinic and the Brent Centre for Adolescents. She has specialist clinical and research interests in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children under-five and their parents. She is currently completing a research study into the contribution of child psychotherapy in supporting the mental health needs of parents and infants in GP practices and community settings.

Felicity has set up and run child psychotherapy services for young children and their families in the NHS, schools, children’s centres and community health services. She currently works directly with and supervises the clinical work of therapists working with children and families affected by early trauma, parental mental health, disability and neurodevelopmental needs. She works in private practice and supervises the clinical work of psychotherapists working with adults and children with learning difficulties in the voluntary sector.
