Jenifer Wakelyn

Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist

Dr Jenifer Wakelyn worked as an artist and in early years’ education before training in psychoanalytic child psychotherapy at the Tavistock Centre.

Dr Wakelyn has a special interest in therapeutic support for babies and young children who have experienced trauma or changes of caregiver.

The Watch Me Play! approach developed from her clinical research, with funding from the Tavistock Clinic Foundation, and has now been disseminated internationally. Current research includes a pilot feasibility study funded by Foundations in the UK, and a project with government funding in Japan to support development and well-being for young children in foster care and institutional care.

Her book, Therapeutic Approaches with Babies and Young Children in Care: Observation and Attention, was published by Routledge in 2020. Dr Wakelyn teaches and supervises in the Tavistock Centre and in China, Israel, Italy and Japan.
